About

As a middle school teacher at the Canadian School of Florence you will be responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of Social Sciences courses to our students (Grades 6-8). You will support the students, you will contribute to the ongoing success and growth of the school through your contribution of excellent classroom practice, positive and collaborative and willingness to support the wider life of the school.

General Responsibilities

  • Promote the ‘mission’ and philosophy of the school, ensuring that students are working towards being global citizens.
  • Ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting are of the highest quality and meet the varying learning and social needs of students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is inclusive and where all students feel comfortable expressing their views, opinions and needs.
  • To demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge, teach and assess effectively and take active responsibility for student progress.
  • Use tracking, monitoring and intervention processes to advance student learning.
  • Communicate effectively to the school’s stakeholders, being an ambassador for the school at all times.
  • Take personal responsibility for professional development.
  • Be flexible and adjust to the needs of the school, actively contributing to its development.
  • Ensure school policies are understood and followed consistently.

Quality Learning

  • Plan lessons to ensure student engagement and enjoyment.
  • Plan to meet the needs of a wide range of learners, and adjust accordingly to enable them to reach their potential ensuring that they are appropriately challenged.
  • Ensure students’ skills of enquiry, problem solving and creativity are developed and applied
  • Provide opportunities for both collaborative and independent learning.
  • Communicate progress through written reports, parent consultations and other, as required by the school.
  • Keeps up to date with developments in the subject area, teaching resources and strategies and incorporate the relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Liaise with colleagues especially the SENCO, DSL and Well-being Lead as and when required.
  • Support the life of the school beyond the classroom.
  • Be committed to participating in co-curricular activities.

Your Profile

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Bachelor of Education degree (Ontario or equivalent)
  • Qualified to teach high school students in Social Sciences
  • First language English Speaker

 EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience teaching
  • Demonstrates creativity and a passion for teaching and a strong work ethic
  • Experience with innovative teaching and learning
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation skills
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of the school, the academic and co-curricular directions
  • Be enthusiastic, energetic, and able to nurture unique learning experiences for students.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative, flexible and supportive team environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and equality.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • High level of teaching, communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in an international setting is an asset
  • Extracurricular experience is an asset.

The school

Canadian School of Florence is a K-12 school with students from 3 to 18. The Preschool (Pre-K to K) and Elementary (Grades 1-3) campus is in San Domenico, Fiesole. The Upper Elementary (Grades 4 & 5) and Middle School campus (Grades 6-8) is also located in a nearby building. The Senior School (Grades 9-12) is in Florence, in beautiful historical building, less than 2 km away from the Junior school.

The Secondary school program is delivered entirely in English, supporting students to earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma which is recognised by universities worldwide.
