Opportunity
We are looking for a PE and Biology teacher at the Canadian School of Florence who will be responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of the Ontario PE and Biology curriculum to our students from Middle to high school. The candidate will ensure that the programs are relevant, engaging and fit for purpose, aiming for a lifelong love of physical activity.
Teaching & Learning
- Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality instruction in:
Healthy Active Living (PE+Health) (Grades 9–11)
Biology (Grades 11–12)
Kinesiology (Grade 12 University Preparation)
- Design engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with the Ontario curriculum expectations.
- Effectively teach stacked (combined grade-level) courses if required.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including EAL students.
- Integrate literacy strategies to support reading, writing, scientific vocabulary acquisition, and academic language development.
- Use varied assessment and evaluation strategies consistent with Ontario Ministry guidelines.
- Foster safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom/sports facility environments.
- Coaching & Athletics
- Coach and develop school teams in:
o Football
o Basketball
o Volleyball
- Plan and lead practices, training sessions, and competitions.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and student well-being.
- Support the development of a positive and inclusive athletic culture within an international school context.
- Student Support & Collaboration
- Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary initiatives and school improvement planning.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians in an international setting.
- Participate in co-curricular and community activities.
Your Profile
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
- Bachelor of Education degree (Ontario or equivalent);
- Ontario Teachers’ Certificate or international teaching qualification, in good standing;
- Qualified to teach elementary and middle school students;
- Native English Speaker.
EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching PE;
- Demonstrates creativity and a passion for teaching and a strong work ethic;
- Experience with innovative teaching and learning;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation skills;
- Good organisational and time management skills;
- Commitment to the mission and vision of the school, the academic and co-curricular directions;
- Be enthusiastic, energetic, and able to nurture unique learning experiences for students;
- Able to thrive in a collaborative, flexible and supportive team environment;
- Commitment to safeguarding and equality;
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality;
- High level of teaching, communication and presentation skills;
- Independent school experience, and coaching/extracurricular experience are assets.
