We are looking for an Educational Assistant at our Canadian School of Florence.
Responsibilities
• Assist the Learning Support Coordinator in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with diverse learning needs, ensuring tailored support strategies are in place.
• Provide targeted assistance to students with identified special education needs, including those with IEPs, ensuring access to the curriculum and promoting inclusion in all school activities.
• Offer specialized support for students with English as an Additional Language (EAL), employing strategies to enhance their language acquisition and comprehension within the classroom setting.
• Facilitate small group and one on one interventions for students requiring additional academic or language support, focusing on areas such as literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
• Engage in continuous communication with teaching colleagues and the Learning Support Coordinator to share insights and strategies on student progress and needs.
• Assist in the supervision and organization of activities designed for social skill development and peer interaction among students with varying needs.
• Maintain up to date notes and observations of student progress, interventions, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with school policies and privacy regulations.
• Implement school policies and procedures related to safeguarding, reporting any concerns regarding student welfare to the appropriate coordinator or school authorities promptly.
• Perform supervision duties during school activities, breaks, and transitions, ensuring student safety and adherence to school rules and guidelines.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience in supporting students with special educational needs and English as an Additional Language within an educational setting.
• Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum and experience in adapting curriculum materials to meet the needs of students with IEPs and EAL requirements.
• Strong understanding of Grwoing Success, inclusive education practices, differentiated instruction techniques, and strategies for supporting students with diverse learning profiles.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals.
• Proficient in using educational technology and resources to support learning and language development.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development in the areas of special education, language acquisition, and inclusive teaching practices.
• Sensitivity to cultural diversity and the ability to engage with students from various backgrounds in a supportive and positive manner.
• Knowledge of and commitment to safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
